With the Baucar Buku Madani 2026 program beginning on 1 July 2026, bookstores, publishers, educational suppliers, and online merchants can expect an increase in book orders and nationwide deliveries.

While fulfilling orders quickly is important, ensuring that books arrive in excellent condition is equally critical. Damaged parcels can lead to customer complaints, replacement costs, and negative buying experiences.

To help merchants prepare, we’ve compiled a practical packaging guide based on courier best practices to ensure your books and educational materials reach customers safely.

1. Choose Strong and Suitable Packaging

Your packaging starts with the outer layer.

For best protection:

  • Use sturdy corrugated boxes for larger or multiple-book shipments
  • Use quality courier flyers with internal protection for lighter shipments
  • Avoid damaged, worn-out, or previously used boxes
  • Ensure the packaging fits the contents snugly

A weak or oversized package can easily collapse or become damaged during sorting and transportation.

Recommended Packaging

Single Book Orders

  • Bubble-wrapped book inside a quality courier flyer

Multiple Books

  • Corrugated box with internal cushioning

Premium or High-Value Book Sets

  • Corrugated box with additional internal protection

2. Eliminate Empty Space Inside the Package

One of the most common causes of shipping damage is movement inside the parcel.

To prevent this:

  • Fill all empty spaces with cushioning materials
  • Use bubble wrap, kraft paper, foam, or air pillows
  • Ensure books remain firmly in place during transit

A simple test:

👉 Gently shake the parcel.

If you hear or feel movement, add more protective filler before sealing.

The goal is to keep the contents completely stable throughout the delivery journey.

3. Apply Proper Cushioning

Not all protective materials provide the same level of protection.

Choose cushioning based on your shipment:

For Books and Educational Materials

  • Bubble wrap for individual books
  • Kraft paper for filling empty spaces
  • Foam sheets for premium or fragile printed materials
  • Cardboard inserts for added rigidity

For Multi-Book Orders

  • Wrap books individually
  • Use cardboard dividers between books
  • Add cushioning around all sides of the package

Pro Tip: Maintain at least 5 cm of protective cushioning around the contents whenever possible.

4. Use Multi-Layer Protection

A good packaging strategy follows a three-layer protection approach:

Layer 1: Product Protection

Protect individual books with sleeves, plastic wrapping, or bubble wrap.

Layer 2: Internal Protection

Use foam, cardboard inserts, dividers, or cushioning materials.

Layer 3: Outer Packaging

Place everything inside a strong courier flyer or corrugated box.

This layered approach significantly reduces the risk of damage during handling and transportation.

5. Consider Double-Boxing for Premium Shipments

For high-value educational materials, collector editions, or bulk orders, consider using a double-boxing method.

How Double-Boxing Works

  1. Pack the books inside a smaller box.
  2. Place the smaller box inside a larger box.
  3. Fill the space between both boxes with cushioning material.

This extra layer of protection helps absorb impacts and provides better protection during long-distance deliveries.

6. Seal Parcels Properly

Even the strongest packaging can fail if it is not sealed correctly.

Use:

  • High-strength packing tape
  • Multiple strips of tape for heavier parcels

The H-Taping Method

The H-taping method is recommended by many logistics providers because it reinforces all major box openings.

Seal:

  • The center seam
  • Both edge seams
  • Top and bottom flaps

This creates an “H” pattern that helps prevent boxes from opening during transit.

7. Label Parcels Correctly

Proper labeling ensures smooth processing throughout the delivery network.

Best Practices

  • Place shipping labels on a flat surface
  • Ensure barcodes are fully visible
  • Avoid placing labels over seams or tape
  • Keep labels clean and wrinkle-free

Handling Labels

You may also add labels such as:

  • Fragile
  • Handle With Care
  • This Side Up

However, it’s important to remember:

Good packaging protects parcels better than labels alone.

Labels provide guidance, but proper packaging remains the first line of defense.
